Childers Chapel and Cemetery History of the Childers Chapel Memorial Methodist
Church. Helen York Rose. About ten miles Northeast of Nowata, Nowata County, Oklahoma, stood a little church. The Mary A. Childers Memorial Methodist Church, built AD 1918. The church was built on Delaware Indian Land owned by Mary A. Childers and donated by her mother Nancy Childers, in memory of her daughter Mary. In 1955 an addition was added to the Church. The church burned leaving only the corner stone and flag pole. The Childers Chapel Cemetery is located behind where the Church stood. Donated also by Nancy Childers in memory of Mary A. Childers, for family burials. The cemetery has a fence around it with trees for shade. It is maintained by family members who are proud of their past. The Church by the Side of the Road Thro' the mist of years I can seem to see At the place of prayer, in that little Church, Then on memory's page I can see again written by Helen York Rose
